Capital Dub Style, Canberra’s reggae crew, return to Transit Bar for a unique night of local talent, showcasing the best of the new bass heavy sounds and beats operating in and around the ACT.
Sub Detonator is an explosive new live dub trio, composed of the 3 founding members of Agency Dub Collective, playing classic modern dub: bass-heavy, hard driving rhythms, layered with strange and wondrous sonic explorations.
The line-up consists of Marcos on bass, Dub Ninja on drums and effects, and Rondo on guitars, dubs and samples. Finding themselves all living in the same city after a decade apart, results were instantaneous, with the stripped-back trio format, Sub Detonator somehow sounds overwhelmingly spacious and yet ridiculously heavy, bass-driving and explosive at the same time.
Agency Dub Collective was Australia's first ever live dub band, formed in the late nineties in Canberra, relocating to Melbourne in the early 2000's and still continuing to this day. A true collective-style dub outfit, the line-up has been malleable over the years, featuring three different lead singers and perhaps twenty different players of instruments during its history.
IRON GATE SOUND: Raised on a solid diet of deep roots reggae, fed by crates of foundation and dancehall, Iron Gate Sound is the latest sound hailing from Sydney/Canberra, Australia.
Performing as a duo since 2011, Flip and Gilsun blend classic and modern roots reggae showcasing dubplates from up and coming artists as well as bags of big tunes from established Jamaican artists past and present (Sizzla, Turbulence, Luciano).
Gilsun is an established DJ with a long history of mixing, producing and promoting bass culture music in Sydney. While Flip cut his teeth in the late 1990s selecting for one of Australia’s longest running underground hip-hop radio shows, The Big Payback. Flip and Gilsun share a passion for dancehall reggae and finally came together to lively up Sydney with up-to-the time reggae selections, supporting Ziggy Marley at his sellout Sydney show and playing regularly in Sydney and their show seamlessly transitions from classic and modern roots reggae with wall-to-wall bangers. Founded in early 2008 Capital Dub Style (CDS) is a group of DJ’s and promoters dedicated to putting Canberra on the reggae map. Long overlooked by the great talent operating in Australia and abroad, CDS provides ACT with its only regular reggae/dancehall events.
With a string of successful gigs so far included shows with KingTide, Melbourne’s Chant Down Sound, The Red Eyes, Pataphysics, Kingfisha, Sydney´s Firehouse and international guests Tribe Of Kings (USA) and Lotek (UK), CDS aims to continue to keep the flame alive in 2012
