ECHO CHAMBER SOUND is stringing up the sound system, dusting off the dubplates and running vinyl selections once again for the second installment of Version – and their first session back since returning from Europe.
This time they’re lucky enough to be joined by two very special selectors, Miss Fee and Marty Vital (aka Manray) – both hailing from the land of the long white cloud.
MARTY VITAL is considered by many to be the founding father of the modern New Zealand soundsystem scene – having owned and operated the first custom-built heavyweight reggae rig in Aotearoa, Vital Sounds Hi Fi.
An obsessive collector with a penchant for King Tubbys and classic Studio One selections, Marty forwarded serious soundsystem culture in Wellington for several years after unleashing the beautifully crafted four-scoop Vital Sounds rig on Wellingon back in 2007.
Today though he has hung up his sound operator hat after passing the rig on in 2013 to Echo Chamber. Naram and the Col Mustard had learnt their chops working alongside Marty lifting boxes and running selections back in New Zealand before joining LQ in running Echo Chamber Sound in Melbourne. Marty now focuses his time and efforts collecting rare wax – which he will showcase for us at Version.
Originally from the badlands of New Zealand’s ‘Palmy North’, MISS FEE has established herself as one of Melbourne’s top reggae selectors – running a rough mix of rocksteady, original roots, and hard-hitting modern reggae selections.
As a founding selector from the all female Housewives Choice collective, she’s been known to fling down killer dubplates too if any dibby dibby soundboy happens to run his mouth.
As usual, the Echo Chamber blokes will led by their talisman COLONEL MUSTARD who also just so happens to be launching his very own record label – with two killer 7” releases set to hit reggae stores across the world very soon!
Don dada L QUE and PAPA NARAM will also be joining the fray to launch some very serious sonic artillery picked up on their recent vinyl-hunting travels to Europe and UK.
So make it a date and don’t be late – Version Part II is set to be a scorcher!
