The Operatives and Funktion Conceptz present Katchafire and Opensouls

Reggae is one of the bloodlines of New Zealand music -- which accounts for the extraordinary success of Hamiltonís Katchafire who, two years ago, emerged as the hardest working band in the country. Their astonishing debut album, the prophetically named Revival, sold in excess of 30,000 copies (double platinum) and they scored massive hits with songs like Giddy Up, the biggest selling single of 2002. Katchafire had tapped into that bloodline of New Zealand and people, being reacquainted with what they had lost, loved it all over again. Katchafireís music was uplifting and celebratory, and their gigs were joyous singalong affairs where people of all cultures and affiliations were welcomed. Be prepared to celebrate with them. Opensouls have been steadily rising through the ranks of the New Zealand music scene since beginning their musical journey in 2001While hip hop and soul are undoubtedly the backbone of Opensoulsí sound, their music isnít all strictly beats and rhymes. The group have drawn flourishes of inspiration from a wide range of genres including funk, reggae, jazz and blues, all of which play a role in creating the full and vibrant sound on which they have staked their growing reputation. The groupís live set is also turning heads; when Opensoulsí hit the stage, the funk is pushed to the forefront in order to bring the party to the people Ė a recipe that has made them a fan favourite throughout New Zealand and Australia, where they have entertained large crowds at the Big Day Out, Rhythm & Vines, Parihaka Peace Festival, Soundsplash, Rippon, and the I Love NZ Too series.
